On June 17, 2025, a startling accident occurred at 1704 S. MacArthur Boulevard in Springfield, Illinois, when a minivan crashed into the building housing Baskin-Robbins and Sterling Tax Service.
According to local reports, the vehicle struck a masonry support, causing a partial collapse of the building’s roof structure. Two occupants of the minivan were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Fortunately, no one inside the businesses was seriously hurt at the time of the crash.
The impact prompted an immediate response from Springfield Fire Fighters Local 37, with multiple battalions and engine companies dispatched to the scene. The area around the intersection of S. MacArthur Blvd. and W. Laurel St. was temporarily closed to traffic as officials assessed the structural integrity of the building and began their investigation.
Both Baskin-Robbins and Sterling Tax Service announced temporary closures. All staff are safe and accounted for.
As of now, the cause of the crash has not been publicly disclosed, and the Springfield Police Department has not issued an official statement. The building remains under evaluation for safety, and the road closure will stay in effect until further notice
